Organophilic clay builds viscosity, increases gel strength, and suspends weighting agents while aiding in hole cleaning and fluid loss control in oil-based drilling fluids. Our PEL-OCLAY is one of the most essential additives in an OBM system, keeping the fluid stable and performing efficiently under severe downhole conditions.

Primary emulsifiers like PEL MUL P create and stabilize the oil-water emulsion, whereas secondary emulsifiers like PEL MUL S ensure drill solids remain oil-wet, preventing emulsion breakdown under downhole conditions. Both work best when used together in the correct ratio for optimal fluid system stability.

A liquid viscosifier like VISCOMOD P is used in invert emulsion systems when a flexible, pumpable alternative to organophilic clay is needed, or when an organoclay-free system is required. It builds viscosity, improves suspension, and enhances emulsion stability and fluid loss control, remaining stable at temperatures up to 350°F.

Fluid loss control additives prevent excessive filtrate from entering the formation. Choosing the right type depends on the mud system and downhole temperature and pressure conditions. For conventional invert emulsion systems, we supply organophilic lignite like PEL-OLIG, while for high-temperature applications up to 350°F, we provide polymeric reducers like PEL-FIL R.

A wetting agent like PEL WET ensures drill solids remain oil-wet rather than water-wet in diesel, mineral oil, or synthetic-based drilling fluids. This prevents emulsion instability, increased torque, and drag. Without it, solids can destabilize the entire mud system and drastically reduce overall drilling efficiency.
