The Importance of Fluid Loss Control Additives in Drilling Operations

Share

Fluid loss control additives are essential for maintaining wellbore stability, preventing the invasion of drilling fluids into the formation and ensuring the overall success of drilling operations. At Proec Energy, we are dedicated to drilling starch manufacturing with a range of high-performance fluid loss control additives designed to enhance wellbore stability and prevent the invasion of drilling fluids into the formation. Below, we have highlighted some of them for both water-based and oil-based mud systems.

WATER-BASED MUD ADDITIVES

PEL STARCH – PG (API Starch)

It is a pre-gelatinized drilling starch that offers rheological and filtration support in all water-based mud systems. This additive meets API 13A performance standards and is suitable for all types of water-based drilling fluids, where it helps to reduce fluid loss by forming a thin, low-permeability filter cake.

PEL STARCH – HT (High Temperature Starch)

Designed for high-temperature applications, this modified starch provides rheological and filtration control in water-based systems up to 285°F. It is ideal for drilling in high-temperature environments where conventional starches might fail.

PEL-ONEX

This is a resinated lignite-based additive and is used in scenarios where both fluid loss control and rheological stability are critical, such as in complex drilling operations where maintaining the viscosity and flow properties of the mud is essential.

LIG 7

LIG 7 is a lignite-based additive widely used in water-based drilling fluids to minimize the filtration rate, thereby protecting the formation and reducing the risk of differential sticking.

Pac LV

Pac LV is a low-viscosity polyanionic cellulose additive particularly effective in water-based mud systems where it not only reduces fluid loss but also contributes to the stability of the mud by controlling the viscosity at low concentrations.

OIL-BASED MUD ADDITIVES

PEL-OLIG (Organophilic Lignite)

A modified lignite product, PEL-OLIG is the primary filtration control additive for conventional invert emulsion drilling fluid systems. It is not suitable for clay-free high-performance invert emulsion systems, but it excels in providing filtration control in standard oil-based systems, ensuring the integrity of the wellbore.

PEL-TROL M (Asphalt)

This is a naturally occurring asphalt used for high-temperature, high-pressure (HTHP) filtration control in oil-based systems. It forms a robust filter cake that minimizes fluid loss.

PEL-FIL R (Liquid Polymeric Fluid Loss Additive)

This is a polymeric filtrate reducer for invert emulsion mud systems, enhancing the thermal stability of drilling fluids. It ensures optimal performance at temperatures up to 350°F and is crucial in deep drilling operations where maintaining fluid integrity under high thermal stress is paramount. It is effective in all kinds of invert emulsions.

In addition to our specialized fluid loss control additives, Proec Energy provides a comprehensive selection of other oil-based additives and water-based mud additives. Our product range includes emulsifiers, surfactants, shale inhibitors, and fluid control additives. We also offer water-based additives such as lubricants, biocides, deformers, and dispersants, along with completion and cementing additives to meet all your drilling and completion needs.
